Trying to bring up four children in any country can be tough but the British Second Wives Club have a unique insight into this. Through their fund-raising, they have changed the life of one young family in Belarus this winter.
Natasha and her husband Sasha have four beautiful girls, Sashka, Christina and the twins, Masha and Olya. Unfortunately, all four of the girls have a radiation-induced form of leukaemia which affects their immune system, common in southern Belarus.
Sasha works extremely hard at the local pig farm maintaining vehicles but the income is only about £6 per month. At home, the family keep a cow to provide milk for the children, some chickens and grow their own vegetables. Without this, the family would not be able to afford to eat meat, diary produce or vegetables, which are essential for keeping the girls healthy.
During a visit in May, Bridges to Belarus was introduced to the family because their old gas cooker had become so dangerous that they could no longer use it. There was no way that they could possibly afford to buy a new one and they were facing a winter without being able to provide hot food for their family.
Having heard of their plight, the British Second Wives Club organised a raffle, featuring a signed photo of Gordon Ramsey. With this and other generous donations from their members, they raised £150 to pay for this essential item for Natasha and her family.
With this fantastic cooker, they will now be able to cook meals and give their children the best chance of good health through the winter. The family have also been provided with vitamins to further boost the children’s health.
Many thanks for all at BSWC
